PURPOSE:To prolong the life of an electrode for voltage application to an electroviscous fluid consisting principally of liquid crystal without any decrease in electroviscous effect and to reduce the power consumption by coating the surface of the electrode which contacts the electroviscous fluid with an insulating layer. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 functions as the base of the electrode for the electroviscous fluid. The electrode 2 is formed by sticking a metallic material in a thin film state on the substrate 1 or laminating the metallic material on the substrate except for a substrate surface end part 1' by sputtering, vapor deposition, electroless plating, etc., and providing a lead part 4 for the electrode. The insulation layer is formed by spraying dry oil on, for example, the electrode and baking it. The surface of the electrode for voltage application which contacts the electroviscous fluid is coated with the insulation layer to prolong the life of the electrode without any decrease in electroviscosity and also reduce the power consumption. |
