According to the invention, an X 25 packet switch is constructed by combining, an interim shared-memory secured function obtained through a fault-tolerant ISO standardised link opened by relays for linking to distribution links, and a routing function distributed around this first function, ensured by microrouters controlling access by the users attached to each of these microrouters. The latter cooperate together for the monitoring and trunking of packets by virtue of the connection-oriented standardised protocols. <IMAGE>
