The recording selection system uses identification marks provided along the disc for sub-dividing the recorded programme blocks, e.g. the different pieces of music into up to 99 parts. The required recording section is selected via a memory in which the identification marks are stored, together with the corresponding beginning and end points, allowing the corresponding setting up of the optical read head to be calculated. Pref. the storage of the identification marks and the beginning and end points is effected during play of each compact disc, using a resident memory ensuring that the stored information is retained when the compact disc player is switched off.
