PURPOSE:To provide a variable finesse optical ring resonator by varying the ratio of optical coupling between an input/output optical path and a ring-shaped optical unit. CONSTITUTION:A ring optical waveguide 2 which constitutes a closed loop is arranged in a clad layer 1a on a silicon substrate 1 and optically coupled with an input optical waveguide 3a and an output optical waveguide 3b. The optical coupling part of the ring-shaped optical waveguide 2, input optical waveguide 3a, and output optical waveguide 3b consists of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer circuits 11 and 21 and the optical coupling ratio is variable. Consequently, proper filter characteristics are obtained and light can be guided out. |
