The invention relates to a telescopic device for connecting two substantially coaxial lengths of pipe, in which the end faces (5, 6) of the lengths of pipe are substantially perpendicular to the common axis (4) and are separated from one another, which device (1) comprises two sleeve tubes mounted so as to slide axially with respect to each other with a slight clearance, means for coupling each end of the device (1) with the corresponding ends of the lengths of pipe and a means for translational immobilisation of the sleeve tubes with respect to each other when the device is at the appropriate length. It is characterised in that: - on the one hand, each end of the device (1) comprises a means for positioning the latter on the corresponding pipe end and an annular housing receiving a seal termed end seal which bears on the end face (5, 6) of a length (2, 3) of pipe, and - on the other hand, one of the sleeve tubes exhibits a stop member on which the other sleeve tube bears, at least indirectly, via a means termed an expansion means for lengthwise expansion of the device. <IMAGE>
