The invention relates to a device intended to vary, on the one hand, the timing of a camshaft with respect to a crankshaft of a four-stroke combustion engine and, on the other hand, to the time for which the valves are open. This device comprises a first differential including a driving member (2) rotationally driven by the crankshaft and a driven member (10) connected to the camshaft, a second differential including a driving member (11) driven by the crankshaft and a driving member (19), a control system (22-25) designed to modify the angular timing of the second differential, a system of cams (27, 28) respectively associated with the driving member (11) and with the driven member (19) of the second differential, a rocking system (29; 32), the rocking movement and/or amplitude of which are a function of the angular timing between the driving member (11) and driven member (19) which are associated with the cams, and means (33-36) for connection between the rocking system (29; 32) and the first differential. <IMAGE>
