The phase discriminator provides an output voltage (UR) dependent on the phase difference phi between two supplied pulse sequences. The gradient of the characteristic curve obtained by plotting the output voltage (UR) against the phase difference phi corresponds to the phase density distribution. Pref. the two pulse sequences are sent to the clock input and the D input of a D-type flip-flop controlling a NAND gate and an AND gate. The outputs of the gates are summed to obtain the phase discriminator output.
