<p>A process for producing a semipermeable membrane widely used in the purification of foods, medicines, fermentation products and so forth and the treatment of industrial effluent, household effluent and so forth, which process provides a semipermeable membrane having significantly large performance as compared with the membranes produced by the conventional processes and can extend the upper limit of the content of acrylonitrile in an acrylonitrile copolymer for use as the membrane material up to 96.1 mol %. This process comprises producing a semipermeable membrane by phase conversion from a casting solution comprising a copolymer of acrylonitrile with a water-soluble nonelectrolyte monomer having an acrylonitrile content of 80-96.1 mol % as the membrane material, a water-miscible solvent therefor and a nonsolvent therefor which is miscible with both of water and the solvent, said nonsolvent being a monohydric C3 or C4 alcohol and/or a polyhydric C4 to C14 alcohol.</p> |
