A plate carried by a chain for chain conveyor belts to take and transport articles has a long relatively narrow carrier with at least one foot on the underside to engage a chain when in operation; its upper side has a rubber-like cushion to prevent slippage and to provide a safe base for transporting purposes, this cushion standing slightly above the top surface. The carrier plate has at least one through hole; the cushion fits into this hole and is firmly gripped thereby at its rim. EMBODIMENT - The side elevation of a carrier plate (10) has its foot (16) on the underside, which has a member (20) mounted on brackets so as to be engaged by a conveyor chain. The plate (10) has a number of round holes (14) distributed along its length and passing through the whole thickness. The top cushioning layer (26) passes through the holes (14) to the underside. The plate thickness concerned is stepped at its centre so that the cushion is locked in position. The plate (10) can be an injection moulding. ADVANTAGE - The carrier plate design is simple and cheap. It does not allow the top cushion(s) to come off and, in comparison with existing designs, therefore eliminates one stage in its prodn.
