Process for the purification of crude 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane by treatment with chlorine in the presence of a Lewis acid and of hydrogen fluoride and then distillation, the hydrogen fluoride being present during the treatment with chlorine at a concentration of at least 5 % by weight with respect to the mixture of crude 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane and hydrogen fluoride.
