PURPOSE:To produce a polymer rod uniform in its axial direction by polymerization by forcibly discharging the monomer vapor in a vertical cylindrical reactor when the monomer solution gradually supplied into the reactor from the upper part thereof is subjected to radical polymerization toward the upper part of the reactor while the supply speed and polymerization speed of the monomer solution are made synchronous. CONSTITUTION:The monomer supplied into a reactor from the upper part thereof is evaporated corresponding to vapor partial pressure to be stagnated in the reactor. The monomer vapor is condensed in the upper part of the reactor to be refluxed to the reactor and polymerized on the wall of the reactor to contaminate the reactor. As the reactor, a transparent one soluble in a monomer to be used is convenient because the rod integrated with the reactor is obtained. In this case, the wall of the reactor is corroded with the monomer vapor and the inner diameter of the reactor becomes non-uniform and the boring of the reactor is generated. Especially, in such a case that radical polymerization is thermal polymerization, this phenomenon is marked. Therefore, it is important to forcibly discharge the monomer vapor in the reactor to the outside by employing an arbitrary discharge method. |
