PURPOSE:To speed up KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) conversion by the handwritten character recognition device. CONSTITUTION:The handwritten character recognition device which converts a handwritten character string inputted on a tablet 1 into KANJI and displays it as conversion candidates on a display device 9 automatically registers pairs of conversion processing results, obtained by converting past handwritten character strings by using a KANJI conversion dictionary 8, and the input character strings, in an individual dictionary 7, retrieves the individual dictionary 7 before an input character string inputted on the tablet 1 is converted into KANJI by using the KANA/KANJI conversion dictionary 8 when the handwritten character string is inputted and outputs a corresponding character string as a conversion candidate on a display device 9 when the corresponding character string is present in the dictionary, and performs the conversion processing by using the KANJI conversion dictionary unless no corresponding character string is present. Consequently, unnecessary KANA/KANJI conversion processing can be omitted and the processing is speeded up. |
