<p>PURPOSE: To provide the short fiber having fibril structure of highly oriented, with no pollution problem, having excellent heat- and chemical-resistance and bindingness, and useful for industrial material. CONSTITUTION: Acrylonitrile of >=70%, by weight, and a polymerizable monomer of <=30% are polymerized, after heating a mixture of acrylonitrile homopolymer or copolymer having the viscosity-average molecular weight of 10,000-500,000 and water of 5-10% to a temp. of above the melting temp., the mixture is cooled at a temp. between the melting and the solidifying temp., then the resultant is extruded. After proceeding drying and drawing the continuous extrudates, the resulted extrudates are heat-stabilized at 180-300 deg.C, then cut and beated to obtain the objective short fiber having a thickness distribution of 0.1-50μm, a length distribution of 1-20 mm and no thermal transition temp. at <=200 deg.C.</p> |
