PURPOSE: To continue a circuit operation irrespective of the failure of a crash sensor by detecting the failure of a first switch means by a threshold control means in response to a second failure detection, and inhibiting the operation of the threshold control means. CONSTITUTION: Generally, when a safety sensor 16 and an electronic crash sensor (determined by a microprocessor 24) in an ASIC 26 respond to accelerations exceeding respective thresholds to simultaneously close the constantly open switch 14 of the safety sensor 16 and both firing FETs 22, a shunt resistor 42 is shunted. Thus, electric curent supplied across respective squibs 20 exceeds the firing thresholds of the squibs to explode the squibs at the same time. This circuit 10 further includes a diagnostic ASIC 44 for diagnosing the failure of the sensor ASIC. When the failure of the integral electronic crash sensor of the sensor ASIC, the microprocessor 24 or both the FETs 22, a reconfigured FET 46 allows the sensor ASIC 26 to pull down the sides of the respective squibs 20 opposite to the sensor 16 to ground. |
