PRODUCTION OF PHENOL AND METHYL ETHYL KETONE

PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject compounds in high yield without lowering the yield of sec-butylbenzene hydroperoxide by recycling sec- butylbenzene without containing styrenes to an oxidation step. CONSTITUTION:A recovered reactional solution produced after oxidizing reaction of sec-butylbenzene is subjected to reducing reaction with hydrogen to convert the styrenes in the reactional solution into alkylbenzenes. The sec-butylbenzenes substantially without containing the styrenes are recycled to the oxidation step to afford the objective compounds.
