PURPOSE:To appropriately determine that an automobile runs on a back street, a narrow curved road or the like, and to appropriately control the output power of an engine in accordance with a condition of the road. CONSTITUTION:A navigation system is composed of a display computer 21, a display 22, as main components, several kinds of sensors 10, 12, 14, 17, 18, 30, a CD-ROM player 24 and a navigation receiver 29, and the position, direction and the like of an automobile on a map are obtained and are displayed on the display 22. The display computer 21 determines whether the position of the automobile is on a main road on map data or not, and if it is not on a main road, a throttle computer 20 controls the drive of a d.c. motor 5 for a throttle valve so as to decrease the output power of the engine 1, relative to the one and the same opening degree theta of an accelerator. Accordingly, it is precisely determined from he map data that the position of the automobile is on a back street or the like, and in this case, an abrupt variation in the output power of the engine is restrained. |
