The system for forming a thermal image according to the invention links a sensor (1) having a double wave range and double magnification, with a head-orientation system; it uses image memories (2, 3) for storing information originating from each of the sensors, and it addresses (9, 10) the image memories so as to supply to a display mounted in the helmet, the correct thermal image which is a function of the direction towards which the head of the user is looking, as it is indicated by the position of the helmet. <IMAGE>
