Alongside heavily congested vehicle routes, self-propelled continuous belts are provided, one for each vehicle direction. Vehicles drive onto the belt, switch off their engine, and are conveyed to the other side of the congested area. Vehicles leave the belt under their own power. The belts can be arranged in pairs or a number of independent units. Control switches can be located at the start and end of the belts.
