A method for improving sepn. properties of semi-permeable membranes with penetrating defects exposed its opposite sides each with a solution of one of two reaction partners such that the defects become the site of reaction to occlude them with a product. The reaction partners produce a polymer within the defects and is used to modify the properties of so far uncommercialised membrane polymers of type other than cellulose acetates and cellulose acetobutyrates.
