The invention relates to a decompression brake for commercial vehicles, which has a hydraulic device which holds open the exhaust valve (14) of the diesel internal-combustion engine by a small gap in the region of the ignition top dead centre during the compression stroke, the hydraulic device being formed from an operating cylinder controlling the exhaust valve (14) and having an operating piston (4), a control line (3) and a transmitter cylinder with transmitter piston (1).
