<p>PURPOSE: To provide a fully optical gate device which performs all operations by light. CONSTITUTION: An optical amplifier like an erbium doped fiber amplifier and this device are cascaded. This device is operated in the area where signal wavelengthλs is 1.2mμ<λs<1.7μm; and with respect to an AlGaAs optical waveguide means, a nonlinear refractive index n2 and an absorption coefficientαare so set that a signal pulse having center wavelengthαhas the phase shifted byπwith <=e<-1> of loss by the existence of a proper control pulse when being propagated in the waveguide means. This device is effectively used in a fully optical gate whihc is applied to a device, which reproduces the timing of an input pulse train in accordance with a reference pulse train, and has a nonlinear material where walk-off can be ignored and a dispersive delay line, which receives the pulse emitted from this nonlinear material, and has AlGaAs planar waveguides 11, 12, and 13 operated in the wavelength area from 1.2μm to 1.7μm.</p> |
