PURPOSE:To avoid a glaring and an afterglow at the time of setting high brightness to avoid the drop of a contrast ratio at the time of setting low brightness and to improve visibility by changing the number of auxiliary pulses according to the total numbers of address pulses and holding pulses in a scanning period. CONSTITUTION:The number of auxiliary pulses is changed between the high brightness setting and low brightness setting. Two auxiliary pulses are given in an auxiliary pulse period (c) at the time of setting the high brightness having a large number of pulses in a display pulse period (d). Then, two pulses with opposite phase to the auxiliary pulses are given in the auxiliary pulse period (c) in both a selective cell column and non-selective cell column (q). Consequently, the contrast ratio between the selective cell and the non-selective cell is reduced and the glaring and the afterglow are restrained. On the other hand, the number of the auxiliary pulse goes to one at the time of setting low brightness for which the number of the holding pulses is a half comparing with the high brightness setting. Thus, the drop of the contrast ratio at the time of setting low brightness is prevented. |
