PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a host computer (abbreviated to host hereafter) due to down load by making the down load of an X server program possible to perform from not only the host but also an X window terminal (abbreviated to XT hereafter). CONSTITUTION:In the X server system in which a host 10 storing the X server program and plural XTs 30, 40, and 50 are connected by a communication network 20, the XT 30 broadcasts the down load request to the host 10 and the other XTs 40 and 50 at the time of start and loads down the ZX server program from the host 10, the XT 40, or the XT 50 which first returns a confirmation response in response to the down load request. The host 10 returns the confirmation response in the case of receiving the down load request, and each of XTs 40 and 50 returns the confirmation response in the case of receiving the down load request if it has already loaded down the X server program.
