PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber easily adaptable for various purposes such as fixing of a metal tube, sealing of the whole fiber, and protecting of a connecting part, etc., by integrating a metal tube with a coated optical fiber with a pressing tool. CONSTITUTION:This fiber material consists of a coated optical fiber 4 coated with a metal film 3 and a thin and long metal tube 5 which is fitted to the coated optical fiber 4. The pressed part of the fiber material has a deformed cross section such as ellipsoid or hexagon over a prescribed width. Thus, the inner circumferential surface of the metal tube 5 and the outer circumferential surface of the metal coating 3 of the coated optical fiber 4 are substantially sealed. |
