PURPOSE:To provide a compact and low loss multi-branch waveguide device. CONSTITUTION:The multi-branch waveguide device is obtained by forming a Y-branch waveguide 4 and a slab waveguide 6 by the diffusion of metallic Ti. The waveguide 4 is provided wish a waveguide part 4a constituting an input port and waveguide parts 4b, 4c connected to the incident end face 6a of the waveguide 6. When signal light is made incident upon the part 4a, the signal light is branched by the waveguide 4 at the rate of 1 to 1. Two branched beams are made incident upon the waveguide 6 through a pair of waveguide parts 4b, 4c and the incident end part 6a. An inference pattern is formed in the waveguide 6 due to the two branched beams. Consequently bright and dark stripes are arranged on the projection end face 6b of the waveguide 6 at a prescribed interval to divide the signal light into 16 parts. |
