PURPOSE: To obtain an improved diagnostic system and interface used for an open type personal computer which can be operated in a different operating system. CONSTITUTION: A personal computer is provided with a nonvolatile memory 30 containing an error log 88 for storing established error log information at an already fixed storing position. The information is accessible by executing various kinds of programs, such as a self-testing program, a diagnostic program, and an operating system program at the time of making power supply. The information can be accessed by calling the interruption of a basic input-output system 126 through a basic input-output system interface 126. The memory 30 also stores essential product data 92 and system setup data 90.
