PURPOSE:To improve the safety of automatic steering by restricting a steering input means with a restricting means to allow automatic steering when the steering input means is set to the neutral position, and releasing the restriction of the restricting means to prohibit automatic steering when the steering input means is set to the nonneutral position. CONSTITUTION:An ECU identifies whether the automatic steering mode is set or not during the travel of a vehicle, and it excites an electromagnetic clutch 25 to restrict the rotation of a steering wheel in the automatic steering mode. The information from various sensors necessary for automatic steering is inputted, the actual steering position where the signal outputted from a position sensor 150 is read out is inputted to calculate the target steering quantity. A three-way switching solenoid valve 13 and a linear pressure control valve 15 are controlled to drive a power cylinder 132. When automatic steering is released, the electromagnetic clutch 25 is de-excited to release the steering wheel, the target steering position is set to O (center), the power cylinder 132 is driven, and the position of a piston 134 is fixed when the target steering position is attained. |
