PURPOSE:To obtain a minute image by imparting cushioning properties to a thermal transfer recording medium and/or a medium to be recorded and preventing transfer unevenness, etc., in a device converting light applied to an image body into heat transferring the image from the thermal transfer recording medium to the medium to be recorded. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer recording medium is formed by forming a heat-fusing ink layer onto a supporter having cushioning properties, or formed by successively laminating a cushion layer and the heat-fusing ink layer onto a supporter having non-cushioning properties. Or a medium to be recorded is formed by shaping an image-receiving layer onto the supporter having cushioning properties in place of such a thermal transfer recording medium. Or it is formed by successively laminating the cushion layer and the image- receiving layer onto the supporter having non-cushioning properties. Or a mat material crushed by pressing or heating and pressing against at least one of the image-receiving surface of the medium to be recorded is included in the surface side of the thermal transfer recording medium. A material having a low elastic modulus or a rubber elastic material is used as the cushion layer.
