PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical characteristics of the subject sintered product by mixing ZrO2 or Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 with a Y.Al double oxide, compact the mixture powder and subsequently sintering the compacted product. CONSTITUTION:The powder of ZrO2 having a particle diameter of 0.1-1.0mum and containing 0-8mol.% of Y2O3 in the solid state is mixed with the powder of a Y.Al double oxide having a particle diameter of 0.1-1.0mum, such as Y.Al garnet (Y3Al5O15) in an amount of 5-50wt.% based on the mixture, followed by grinding the mixture. The mixture powder is press-compacted and subsequently sintered at 1100-1600 deg.C to provide the ZrO2 sintered product in which Al2O3 is dispersed in the ZrO2 matrix containing the Y2O3 in the solid state and which has an excellent mechanical strength. |
