PURPOSE:To make it possible to adapt optimum recovery sequences respectively to a case where a recording head is replaced and to a case where the recording head is not replaced by preparing different recovery sequences adaptable respectively to the above two cases regarding ink ejection from an ink jet cartridge in which the recording head and an ink tank separable. CONSTITUTION:In execution of recovery process for a recording head equipped with a removable ink tank, recovery sequences are made different respectively for the case where the head is replaced and for the case where the head is not replaced. In the case where the head is replaced, replacement of the head is judged by comparison made at a part to be detected at the time of starting printing. Then existence of the ink tank 21 is detected by pushing a pressing shaft member 27a and after that, suction recovery operations are executed twice and preliminary ejections for aging are executed 50000 times. Suction recovery operations are made further and thereby the temperature of the head is brought closer to the ambient temperature, and then a series of recovery sequence is finished with the state of ink ejection stabilized. In the case where the head is replaced, existence of the ink tank 21 is detected after a timer indicating non-existence of the tank 21 is reset, and after mounting of the tank is confirmed, operations for recovery sequence are executed in accordance with the values set by the timer. |
