Process for the production of olefinic hydrocarbons from a feedstock including aliphatic hydrocarbons. The feedstock is introduced at one of the ends of at least one first heat exchanger-reactor 9 under pressure with catalyst-filled tubes 10 and with a calandria 11 and the feedstock is circulated inside the tubes. During a reaction stage, heating of the tubes is performed by passing a quantity of air and a quantity of fuel through at least one gas generator 1 designed to deliver heating gases at an appropriate pressure and temperature, by conveying the gases to the entry of the calandria of the heat exchanger-reactor, preferably the feedstock introduction side, and by circulating them in the calandria of the heat exchanger-reactor. These gases, which may feed a power recovery turbine 18, are removed at the other end and an effluent rich in olefinic hydrocarbons is collected at the other end of the exchanger-reactor. A purge and catalyst regeneration stage is carried out in another exchanger-reactor 33 while the first exchanger-reactor is in a reaction stage. <IMAGE>
