PURPOSE:To provide silicon nitride-silicon carbide compound sintered products with improved strength and breaking toughness by strengthening the grain boundaries which are weakest parts in the sintered products where silicon car bide is dispersed in the silicon nitride matrix. CONSTITUTION:In the objective silicon nitride-silicon carbide compound sintered product, 1 to 30% of silicon carbide is dispersed in silicon nitride and the amorphous phase of silicon carbide distributes on the grain boundaries of silicon nitride and fine crystals of silicon carbide of nanometer size disperse in the amorphous phase. |
