PURPOSE:To obtain an alkylene oxide adduct having narrow distribution of added molar number and containing little unreacted raw material such as alcohol and by-produced polyethylene glycol in the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:An alkylene oxide adduct is produced from an alkylene oxide and an organic compound containing active hydrogen by carrying out the reaction in the presence of a magnesium oxide catalyst incorporated with Si<4+> and then Ba<2+>.
