This device is of the type including a member for locking the leaves (1, 2) of the door, which member can be pivoted about a horizontal axis between a lifted position locking the leaves (1, 2), by bearing against the bottoms (3, 4) of their espagnolette, and a down, release position. The locking member is made up of a tubular component (14) provided with a notch (21), the horizontal axis of pivoting (15) of which is parallel to the opening plane, and which tubular component is housed inside a fixed housing (12), the aforementioned notch (21) substantially covering half the cylindrical wall of this component (14) and being located so that its plane is substantially vertical when the tubular component (14) is in its position in which it locks the leaves (1, 2) with its upper edge bearing against the bottoms (3, 4) of the espagnolettes, whereas in the other extreme position of this tubular component (14) it occupies a substantially horizontal position, situated below the bottoms (3, 4), a lock (24) located on one of the lateral sides of the fixed casing (2) making it possible to lock the tubular component (14) in the position in which it locks the leaves (1, 2). <IMAGE>
