PURPOSE:To relax a load exerted to the entire end face of a tapered ceramic roller through the entire end roller end face, and to restrain damage at the end face, by crowning at least one of the end surfaces of the roller with a radius in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:Several tapered rollers 1 held by a holder 4 are disposed between inner and outer races 2, 3 of a conical roller bearing. One of the tapered rollers made of ceramic such as silicon nitrate in the conical roller bearing, has opposing end faces la, 1b having curved crowned surfaces which are circumscribed with radii R1, R2 in a range which is 2 to 150 times as large as the diameters D1, D2 of the end faces 1a, 15 With this arrangement, when a thrust load is applied to the end faces 1a, 1b of the tapered roller 1, the load is dispersed and relaxed over the entire end faces by means of the curved surfaces formed on both end faces 1a, 1b in order to prevent breakage of the both end faces. With this arrangement, it is possible to compensate the brittleness peculiar to the ceramic. |
