PURPOSE:To produce an N-substituted m-aminophenol derivative useful as a raw material for color-developing dye for pressure-sensitive copying paper, heat-sensitive recording paper, etc. CONSTITUTION:An N-substituted m-aminophenol derivative is produced by reacting resorcinol with a primary amine in the presence of zinc chloride (catalyst). The above reaction is carried out in an organic solvent in the presence of a cocatalyst consisting of one or more substances selected from silica gel, perfluoro-ion exchange polymer and water. The process is effective for improving the reaction rate, reaction yield and industrial operability. |
