The bolt (10) for fastening two workpieces together has a bolt head (11) with projections (15) formed on the undersurface. The bolt shank has a collar (20) separated from the screw thread by an undercut and separated from the bolt head (11) by a groove (21) with one side of the groove being formed by a conical surface (22). When the bolt is inserted in the holes in the workpieces the projections (15) deform the metal of the workpiece under the bolt head. The deformed metal flows into the groove (22) and the conical surface (21) retains the bolt in the workpiece abutting against the bolt head. USE/ADVANTAGE - The bolt is permanently retained in the workpiece under the bolt head.
