In a braking system with adjustable front-rear axle braking force distribution for a racing vehicle there is an electro-hydraulic braking force control device with an electronic computer stage to take account of the aerodynamic axle-load changes occurring at high speeds which determines an optimised braking force distribution factor from the travelling speed and dynamically detected or assumedly appropriate amounts of the effective adhesion coefficient mu B at the vehicle wheels according to the relation DBom = k1+k2<.> mu B+k3<.>v, where k1, k2 and k3 are vehicle-specific constants obtained from a linear interpolation of the v and mu B-dependence of the factor DBom, in which it itself is determined in accordance with the relation DBom = Oom/1-Oom for various values of an optimised rear axle braking force component Oom, which in turn is determined on the condition that the locking limit at the front axle should be the same as that at the rear axle. The braking pressure applied to the rear wheel brakes follows that to the front wheel brakes so that the rear axle braking force FBH follows the front axle braking force FBV according to the relation FBH = DBom<.>FBV. This gives optimum vehicle deceleration at a predetermined actuating force.
