METHOD OF PREPARING DIBENZYLAMINE

The invention concerns a method for the preparation of dibenzylamine by reacting benzaldehyde with ammonia in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenation catalyst in an inert organic solvent. The method is characterized in that the reaction is carried out with > 0.5 moles of ammonia per mole of benzaldehyde and using a hydrogenation catalyst containing platinum metal and/or iron metal on a support. The method is carried out at low temperatures, preferably 40-90 DEG C. Particular advantages of the method are the high dibenzylamine selectivity obtained (over 90 %) and that the reaction goes practically to completion.
