Trigger mechanism for hand-gun - has spring-loaded toggle pressed through its dead centre to release firing pin

The gun has a firing pin (5) attached to a spring-loaded slider (3). The slider is held in its retracted position by a link (4) with an oblique end face which engages the end face of a wedge (9) formed on the side of the slider (3). The lower end of the link (4) is pivoted to the link of a toggle (6). A spring (8) presses the toggle against a stop (12) and holds the toggle in a position slightly beyond its dead centre. A trigger (1) has its inner end (7) pressed against the toggle (6). When the trigger is pressed the toggle is pushed through its dead centre so that the link (4) is pulled away from the slider which is then pushed forward by the spring (2) so that the firing pin (5) strikes the cartridge. USE/ADVANTAGE - The handgun cannot be fired accidentally.
