PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sol of a precursor of In2 O3 -SnO2 capable of attaining a high concn., having satisfactory film forming property and excellent also in stability by using tri-s-butoxy indium or tri-t-butoxy indium as an indium alkoxide. SOLUTION: A soln. contg. an In alkoxide and an Sn alkoxide as starting materials is hydrolyzed and polymerized to produce the objective sol of a precursor of In2 O3 -Sn02 . The Sn alkoxide is Sn propoxide, Sn butoxide or Sn pentoxide and one or more among tetra-n-butoxy tin, tetra-s-butoxy tin and tetra-t-butoxy tin are particularly used. Alcohols, hydrocarbon, org. acid ester or ketones may be used as a solvent. An acid amide is contained in the alkoxide-contg. soln. by >=5 wt.% concn. and 0.1-1.5 times (mol) as muchβ-diketone as the alkoxides is also contained. At the time of the hydrolysis, 0.05-2 times (mol) as much water as the alkoxides is used.
