Compounds represented by general formula (1) (wherein R3 and R4 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group) are useful as terminal blocking agents for polyimides. A PMR type polyimide varnish containing the compound of general formula (1), a tetracarboxylic acid dialkyl ester represented by general formula (2) (wherein R1 represents a direct bond, CH2, O, CO, SO2, S or C(CH3)2, and X represents a (C1-4) alkyl group) and a diamine represented by general formula (3) shows good storage stability and is particularly useful as a matrix resin to be compounded in fiber-reinforced composite materials.
