PURPOSE:To efficiently remove harmful components such as CO, NOx or the like by igniting methane based fuel at lower temp., by combining a front stage catalyst bed consisting of Pd, Pt and Ni-oxide with a post stage catalyst bed containing Pt or the like as an active component. CONSTITUTION:A front stage catalyst bed containing Pd, Pt and Ni-oxide as active components is provided to the inlet side of a combustible gaseous mixture consisting of methane series fuel and molecular oxygen-containing gas and a post stage catalyst bed containing Pt as an active component or containing Pt and Pd as active components is provided to a gas outlet side and both beds are combined to constitute a catalytic system. The total supporting amount of Pd and Pt supported by the catalytic system is necessarily set to 1-100g/1l of a carrier volume. This catalytic system ignites methane based fuel at low temp. of 300-400 deg.C under high pressure at high linear velocity and has combustion activity for obtaining combustion gas temp. of 750-1,000 deg.C. |
