The process for producing benzothiazolyl-2-sulphenamides by the reaction of a 2-mercaptobenzothiazol or dibenzothiazolyl-2,2'-disulphide with a primary or secondary aliphatic or cycloaliphatic amine in the presence of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant in an aqueous medium is characterized in that to an aqueous suspension of the amine concerned and the 2-mercaptobenzothiazol or dibenzothiazolyl-2,2'-disulphide in a ratio in the region between 1.0 and 1.5 mol amine per mol 2-mercaptobenzothiazol or the equivalent dibenzothiazolyl-2,2'-disulphide, at a temperature in the range from 30 to 70 DEG , is added an aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution, preferably in a proportion of under 1.35 mol per mol 2-mercaptobenzothiazol or the equivalent dibenzothiazolyl-2,2'-disulphide within at least 60 minutes. The total quantity of water in the reaction mixture should not exceed 1500 g per mol 2-mercaptobenzothiazol. This provides an environmentally friendly and economical process for producing benzothiazolyl-2-sulphenamides with high yield and selectivity. |
