PURPOSE:To provide a production of a non-magnetic board for magnetic head which excels in abrasion resistance with small crystal grain diameter and that has high bending resistance. CONSTITUTION:For manufacturing a non-magnetic board whose basic composition is CoO and NiO or NiO, Co and Ni or Ni is used as the starting material. The Co is composed of one or more of the following; carbonate, hydroxide, oxalate and nitrate. The material is thermally decomposed, mixed and calcinated. The powder is molded and sintered. Therefore, the board excels in strength and hardness compared with the conventional board which uses finely powdered oxide as the starting material, the shortening of the life of a magnetic head and the deformation, cracks etc. of the non-magnetic board are suppressed and excellent abrasion resistance and durability of the head are allowed. Since the crystal grain diameter is only 5mum or less and bending resistance is high and stable at 30kg/mm<2>, excellent process characteristics such as chipping characteristic is allowed. |
