The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 3-alkoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehydes from 3-halo-4-hydroxybenzaldehydes. More precisely, the invention consists of a process for the preparation of 3-alkoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehydes by reaction of 3-halo-4-hydroxybenzaldehydes with an alkali metal alkoxide having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and in the presence of a copper compound, characterised in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of an effective amount of a cocatalyst such as carbon monoxide, a formamide or its acetals, or a compound which generates carbon monoxide. |
