PURPOSE:To provide the small-sized optical deflecting element which is free from the complexity in the association of the respective reflection surfaces of a rotary polygonal mirror, etc., used for a scanning optical system and the mounting parts to a motor shaft for driving and to provide the means which can efficiently produce such small-sized optical deflecting element. CONSTITUTION:A base material 1 consisting of a polygonal columnar shape having at least one set of parallel side faces, such as quadrangular prism shape, is used as the optical deflecting element. Working reference planes 2a, 2b to be the mounting reference with the motor shaft for driving are provided on one set of the parallel side faces (a), (b) of this base material 1 and reflection surfaces 3a, 3b are formed on a part of one set of the parallel side faces (a), (b) having the working reference planes 2a, 2b. |
