<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a facsimile store and forward exchange which automatically selects an optimum coding system with a balance of a memory utilizing efficiency and data decoding performance by using plural kinds of coding systems on purpose based on the application purpose of picture information. CONSTITUTION:A coding section 14 copes with plural kinds of coding systems such as the MH (Modified Huffman; linear coding system), the MR (Modified Read; 2-dimension successive coding system) and the MMR (Modified Modified Read; modified 2-dimension coding system) or the like and picture information is compressed by the respective coding systems. The control section 11 uses a coding section 14 as a coding system selection means to select properly a coding system used for compressing the picture information.</p> |
