PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component recognition method, by which a plurality of protruding electrodes arranged at the bottom of an electronic component can be measured as a whole and the volume or the shape of each protruding electrode can be accurately measured. SOLUTION: In an electronic component mounting apparatus 1, when a component 2 on a tray 3 is picked up by a head part 7 and driven over a height sensor 8 by an X axis robot 5 to shift in the X direction, the height image of the component 2 is captured by a height sensor 8. The (height) image obtained by the height sensor 8 is software-processed, the volume or the shape of each of a plurality of hemispherical protruding electrodes of the component 2 is recognized and inspected. When the inspection result is normal, the component 2 is mounted on a prescribed position on the printed board 9. When there is an abnormality in the volume of shape in any of the protruding electrodes of the component 2, the component 2 is discarded. |
