PURPOSE:To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having an excellent over discharge withstanding characteristic and excellent safety. CONSTITUTION:In a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery wherein an compound oxide including lithium being a transition metal is used as a positive electrode material while carbon material as a negative electrode material, an insulating layer 10 is formed between an electrode plate group, in which a positive electrode plate 1 and a negative electrode 3 plate are spirally wound as a whole with a separator 5 interposed between them, and a battery case. With this constitution, even in the case where over discharge is continued as it is and potential of the negative electrode is increased higher than melting potential of the battery case, the battery case is not melted. Since capacity is quickly recovered by re-charging, an over discharge withstanding characteristic can be enhanced. |
